Find A Password With Google

November 14th, 2007 Posted in Internet, Story, Tips & Tricks

Google search engine has been known as password cracker. This issue is confirmed by researchers in Computer Science Department of Cambridge University. By using Google search engine, you can crack any password which has Message-Digest Algorithm 5 (MD5) format very easily.

Steven Murdoch, a security expert who runs a blog called Light Blue Touchpaper, has detected a cracker who enabled to crack his site and made an administrator account in famous blogging software ‘Wordpress’ which installed in server. Murdoch then interested in learning Wordpress password of that cracker.

The Wordpress password has been hash-ed and saved in user database. Murdoch then made a script which will hash-ed all the words in English dictionary so then each will be matched with password data in that Wordpress database.

Hash is a algorithm method which is useful to blur the real character by mathematics calculation. While MD5 is one of the hash method. But unfortunately, Murdoch efforts to match the English words failed. It also did not bring any success with Russian dictionary. He then turn to Google search engine. He input the password to Google, and the result was “anthony”. And the real password is really anthony. Another important idea of using Google.
